Performing a transesophageal echocardiogram is a complex task. Learning it can be challenging, since it requires integration of knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, ultrasound physics, manipulation of the probe, operation of the ultrasound instrument, as well as considerations of patient comfort and safety among other factors. This course is intended to take a stepwise approach to all the key points to perform a transesophageal echocardiogram effectively and safely. The points are presented in manageable modules which build on each other.
No course can substitute for performing actual procedures under the guidance of an experienced mentor. At the same time, there is didactic information that can increase your understanding and confidence when performing mentored procedures. This course is designed to allow you to acquire that didactic information on your own pace in a structured way, so that you make the most of your procedural experiences.
